I am a RAW Artist

My work has been accepted into the RAW Atlanta Showcase on Jan. 30, 2014 from 8 pm to midnight at Terminal West Atlanta.  You can see a sampling of my work and order tickets for the show via my RAW Artist profile at the link below.  I am very excited about being a part of this show.

“IN RUINS” – John B. Gordon School East Atlanta Georgia

A PICTORIAL DOCUMENTARY OF URBAN DECAY AND ABANDONMENT by Tanya Jacobson-Smith

The John B. Gordon Elementary School was built in 1909 and named after General John Brown Gordon, the son of a preacher, a University of Georgia student and was one of Robert E. Lee’s most trusted Confederate generals during the Civil War. Gordon served as a senator from 1873 to 1880, and Governor of Georgia in 1886. He is buried in Oakland Cemetery, and there is a statue of him riding a horse at the Georgia State Capitol.

The school was closed in 1995 and despite rumors of restoration by various development companies it remains abandoned and is gradually being reclaimed by the ground on which it sits. Just 3 days after I shot these images an article appeared in The East Atlanta Patch stating that a moratorium had been lifted and plans are underway for the demolition of the building to make way for a $15 million project.

I am so glad I made the short trip to Atlanta on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 to photograph this piece of Atlanta history.
